Since writing this article I’ve been on a bit of a round-trip with regards to my task management, as I recently felt that the limits of Google Tasks were starting to impede my productivity. I did very much like the simplicity of the above system and if it works for some people then great!
However, for me the problems I came up against were – as you quite rightly point out – the lack of a “summary view” of tasks from all lists, plus the lack of interaction with other software on the desktop. Software in daily use for me is a text editor, terminal/shell and a web browser. I needed something which was going to fit within that system, allow superior management to Google Tasks and get out of the way when I’m actually doing a task, so with my tail between my legs I obediently trotted back to Emacs & org-mode.
An additional benefit of using org-mode is that I can also draft new blog posts directly from my desktop using org2blog. 🙂
